This position is open all year round and exists to develop U6-U17 youth soccer players in accordance to the mission, vision, and values of Cosmo Stars Soccer Club through a seasonal soccer program. The coach is expected to deliver quality soccer guidance and education to young athletes within the Cosmo Stars travel teams, and help those players realize their development potential. The travel team program is a key program to start or advance coaching careers for both new and experienced coaches.

Requirements:
- All applicants must be 18 years or older, and legally authorized to work in the United States,
- Hold the minimum set of grassroots pathway licenses from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) or higher (USSF E/D/C/B/A) required by the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA), or any license diploma from a foreign country (not required for assistant coaches)
- Successful completion of background check and safety courses (SafeSport and CDC Concussion training courses) as mandated by federal law and MSYSA
- Previous soccer playing or coaching experience with good understanding of rules
- Knowledge or ability to apply player development curriculum to on-field sessions
- Experience working with youth aged 6-17 is preferred
- A passion for positively impacting young lives through soccer and contributing to the community
- English fluency required
- Ability to demonstrate technical skills in relation to the game/curriculum
- Dependability and punctuality are essential—being on time for practices, games, and community events is a must
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Professional in demeanor, attire, and appearance to promote the professionalism of Cosmo Stars Soccer Club
Physical Requirements:
This position will require prolonged periods of standing and walking/running in outdoor fields (90% of time) while participating in practices and games, and bending, reaching, lifting (10% of day) while setting up sessions and warmups.
STANDARD WORK HOURS & AVAILABILITY (EVENINGS DURING WEEKDAYS, WEEKENDS IF NEEDED, TRAVEL, PEAK PERIODS, ETC)
- 10-12 weeks per season or up to 6 months per year (3 month in the fall and spring seasons)
- Up to 20 hours per week depending on team assignments (coaches have the option to be assigned up to 4 teams)
- Each team participates in two weekly evening training sessions, and a minimum of one game on weekends. Duration for a single practice is from 1.25 to 1.5 hours and games may last an hour to an hour and a half depending on the age group. Weekend games require at least the head coach or an assistant coach. If no head and assistant coaches are available, there will be no practices or games.
- Additional (optional) opportunities outside the program to gain experience and earn extra money (camps & recreational programs)
Job Type: Part time (hourly), Contract
Pay: $20 - $40 per hour, or $30 - $60 per practice (1.5 hours/practice).
$20 - $30/hr for assistant coaches
$30 - $40/hr for head coaches
Travel team coaching positions are paid based on playing and coaching experience, as well as coaching education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in pre-season coaching clinics to advance coaching and program knowledge
- Participate in pre-season evaluations and scrimmage to determine appropriate team placement/assignments
- Conduct weekly, organized training sessions throughout the season at one or more locations with a focus on individual player development and the Cosmo Stars Soccer Club's development philosophy
- Coach one or more weekend league games at one or more multiple locations, with an emphasis on development and teaching the game (as opposed to results)
- Conduct parent meetings in order to distribute important season/team information and well as maintain good relationships with members.
- Availability to support site coordinators with coverage of practices and games (compensated) to ensure smooth operation of the program.
- Communicate in a timely and respectful manner to members within the program and to site coordinators
